NY1 & NY2 Combining – Server Upgrades Part 2

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Last time we spoke about our plans for combining our 2 NY media servers into one server, after meetings with directors and the team about this we have come up with a better way of hosting media websites and keeping a high level of service to both the customers and the servers.

One of the key points that was raised was having all the sites hosted on one huge machine, no matter what the servers specifications are servers are still hardware which could fail but we always try our hardest to make sure that does not happen. The end conclusion was not to combine but to divide our NY2 server into 3 different areas, as our NY2 server is the server we want to move away from due to hardware upgrades we require.

So… the best way to show what our plans are is by a nice illustration of the plan.

NY-Network

Once we have completed this work we can increase the performance of our services which is our main goal. In the end of these changes we will have a total of 2 new servers.

These plans will be starting to go through within the next few days, we have already setup our new servers apart from our UK, London server which should be with us within the next day or so.

We will be doing everything we can to make sure we have a stable network for our customers and these new systems will greatly improve our already stable network.

As always if you have any questions please feel free to open a support ticket via the client area.

Thank you

A new way for Railo – In Development Part 2

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

With our new server up & running today we have finished the main install of Railo 3 onto the server with Resin which we are happy to inform everything on that it is working just fine on our cPanel based server.

We are currently looking to see how Railo can integrate with the servers hosts XML file so no adding host entries into the Resin file.

The techie part:

What we want to use:
<host regexp=”(.+)”>
<host-name>${host.regexp[1]}</host-name>
<root-directory>/home/${host.regexp[1]}/public_html</root-directory>
<web-app id=”/” document-directory=”.”/>
</host>
What we would need to use if we couldn’t / didn’t want to read a hosts.xml file:
<host id=”DOMAIN.COM” root-directory=”/home”>
<web-app id=”/” root-directory=”USERNAME/public_html” />
</host>
This is the key part for getting Railo working with any site created on the server without the need for our team to do extra work. Not that we are lazy but nice to take unneeded work out of the process. This would also get our sites using Railo straight away or atleast without a long wait if Resin did require a midnight restart (2-5 Second Restart).
Our hopes are that we can have something ready for the release of our brand new server range to celebrate the day.
From the server logs and reports our development / testing server is handling Railo pretty well, and we maybe rolling out Railo to a much larger group than we thought. Maybe a standard feature on our Media hosting!

NY1 & NY2 Combining – Server Upgrades

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Over the next couple of days we will be making major upgrades to our NY1 & NY2 servers to combine them into a brand new type of server which will be double more powerful than both server combined. This is key to make sure our service is stable and uptime is kept to a minimum of 99.9%.

Server Details:

  • 8-Core Intel Xeon CPUs
  • RAID-10 Protected Disk Storage
  • CENTOS 5 64bit
  • New Daily Backup Systems
  • Dedicated 100 Mbps Port
  • Tier-1 redundant bandwidth
  • New updated Firewall
  • 99.9% Uptime Guarantee

DNS Information
There will be no change to IP’s or DNS information as our new server is located in the same data centre in the US, this will allow for a faster transfer between the 3 servers.

This server will act as the main server for media & reseller hosting and will be able to handle all class of websites in one place. The server is part of a network of servers in case we need to switch to a cloud based network for extra processing and storage space.

We hope to have 0 downtime but we must warn all customers on those on NY1 & NY2 servers if downtime occurs our team will be working on the issue to get your sites up onto the new server asap. If at any point you feel you need to contact our team regarding this matter please do contact us asap via the support ticket area.

Thank you and we look forward to hosting your websites on our new servers.

Best regards
