ColdFusion 9 with cPanel plus a little company update

Friday, January 14th, 2011

We thought after our last major update on the plans of the ColdFusion 9 on cPanel services it might be a good idea to update everyone, as we keep getting a lot of people asking when this service will be released.

We are currently at the stage of final testing and have planned to make sure this service is released as soon as our new website is released so take advantage of a faster way to order and a site that will provide more information.

Company Update

To start the little update off we will be releasing our brand new website within a couple weeks time, the design has been approved and we think it will show the best of us really well. Being a CFML hosting company we thought we better build the website in ColdFusion, so we are happy to say most of our website will be built with CFML.

Now some business information for you; as you might have read last year was a very good year we met our targets and kept going above the targets. It has not even been half way through January but we have already beaten January 2010 records by a massive 30%.

We have a number of different areas we have been investing time into such as our WebHostDir page which now have an interview with our company director Jonathon Lucas which can be found at: http://uk.webhostdir.com/search/profile.aspx?spid=15533

We also have a Facebook page which we are currently building an application to be integrated into this. You can check us out at: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Host-Media-UK/102710030037

For all of those ColdFusion lovers out there you will be able to find one or two of us at Scotch on the Rocks next year (SOTR2012). We are hoping to be one of the proud sponsors and be giving away some great software, books, free hosting and Host Media UK merchandise. We hope to be speaking with the SOTR team shortly after the 2011 conference.

Make sure to follow us on Twitter for the very latest news, offers and features from Host Media UK. You can find us at: http://twitter.com/hostmediauk so join the over 240 users already following us.

Hope everyone has a great rest of January 2011. As always we are here 24/7 so feel free to contact us.

New ColdFusion 9 services coming with cPanel/WHM

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

Something we have been wanting to offer for some time after so many people have been asking for it has finally started the testing stage; ColdFusion 9 Enterprise with cPanel/WHM 11 hosting. We will be offering both shared & reseller packages with all the great features of cPanel with ColdFusion 9.

cPanel + ColdFusion 9 Hosting

cPanel + ColdFusion 9 Hosting

What needs to be done
After our successful Kloxo with CF9 we know a lot of the areas we need to work on to make sure our service is fully stable! Here are some of the key elements we will need to work on:

  • Fix the ColdFusion Apache permission issue for CFFile uploads to the temp directory by changing the directory to a friendly server home directory.
  • Test the latest MuraCMS, BlogCFC and Mango Blog to work with the newer 64Bit server.
  • Enable CFManager to work with this second server for ColdFusion which will enable instant DSN setups.

Package Prices
We will be offering the same price & feature plans as our current Kloxo CP based ColdFusion hosting including the free hosting for only £1 setup fee. You will be able to decide which is best for you Kloxo or cPanel.

More ColdFusion Coming
We love ColdFusion so much we are also looking into offering ColdFusion in the UK with a provider who will be able to offer CF8 on Windows (Plesk CP) and support the server requirements better than any other provider in the UK. Another option is to use our current Co-Location providers and have our team run the servers fully with ColdFusion 9 on Windows with Plesk. We will update everyone once we know more on this matter.

General Updates on the ColdFusion side
As always we are always looking to update CFManager with new features and tools, one we have had to put back time and time again due to a heavy increase on work load is CFTracker integration. We are hoping after the release of the CFManager with the added server compatibility we will focus our work load onto adding this invaluable tool to our CFManager. Dave at CFTracker has helped so much and look forward to showing off his work in CFManager.

ColdFusion 9

Have your say!

We wanted to put the question regarding ColdFusion’s future on Host Media UK to the public to try and help us see the demand for the service. We know ColdFusion is in demand and people love using ColdFusion, we have seen this in Railo which has been more than successful.

Q: Would you like to see ColdFusion 9 Enterprise on Linux hosting?

A new way for Railo – In Development Part 2

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

With our new server up & running today we have finished the main install of Railo 3 onto the server with Resin which we are happy to inform everything on that it is working just fine on our cPanel based server.

We are currently looking to see how Railo can integrate with the servers hosts XML file so no adding host entries into the Resin file.

The techie part:

What we want to use:
<host regexp=”(.+)”>
<host-name>${host.regexp[1]}</host-name>
<root-directory>/home/${host.regexp[1]}/public_html</root-directory>
<web-app id=”/” document-directory=”.”/>
</host>
What we would need to use if we couldn’t / didn’t want to read a hosts.xml file:
<host id=”DOMAIN.COM” root-directory=”/home”>
<web-app id=”/” root-directory=”USERNAME/public_html” />
</host>
This is the key part for getting Railo working with any site created on the server without the need for our team to do extra work. Not that we are lazy but nice to take unneeded work out of the process. This would also get our sites using Railo straight away or atleast without a long wait if Resin did require a midnight restart (2-5 Second Restart).
Our hopes are that we can have something ready for the release of our brand new server range to celebrate the day.
From the server logs and reports our development / testing server is handling Railo pretty well, and we maybe rolling out Railo to a much larger group than we thought. Maybe a standard feature on our Media hosting!

A new way for Railo – In Development

Monday, July 5th, 2010

Today our team is working on a new way to host Railo which could allow better interface between the control panel and the Railo service. We have brought a new server (US based) to install the latest cPanel and the latest Railo to work together with high performance.

The features we would like to start offering on this service is:

  • Add domain names to the Railo service to work from midnight onwards

    OR

    Add domain names to work instantly with Railo without the midnight Railo service restarts we currently do

  • Allow data sources (DSN) to be setup / managed within cPanel so no need to access the Web Administrator
  • Also to allow mappings to be managed within cPanel
  • WHM reseller permissions to enable or disable Railo for an account as a feature

This service will be released as stable while we start adding new features over time as listed above. We hope to have the Railo & cPanel service testing finished by the end of the week (9th / July / 2010).

Keep an eye on our blog for updates.

cPanel Enkompass for Windows 2008 Servers

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Over the past month we have had a growing interest in cPanels up coming control panel for Windows and many of our customers are interested in using it when it is released. We have had our eyes on this software since cPanel first released the news that they have started developing the software and we have agreed that we will be signing up to cPanels Enkompass for Windows 2008 Servers when a stable version has been released.

Currently we are unsure when a release will be released stable enough for companies to start using but we will keep all our customers informed.

From cPanel.net

cPanel, the leading Web hosting control panel software provider, has released the beta of its first Microsoft Windows Server® 2008-based product. Traditionally a Linux- and FreeBSD-based supplier of hosting automation tools, cPanel is collaborating with Microsoft to provide its customers with a greater choice of platform selection with Microsoft IIS7.

“Microsoft has shown a strong commitment to the hosting industry over the past several years,” said J. Nick Koston, CEO of cPanel. “cPanel’s Windows development team feels that Microsoft IIS7 offers a robust, high-performance Web server with increased security that the industry will quickly adopt. Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and IIS7 with its modern architecture and support for legacy products was the natural starting point for our expanded product offering.”
