ColdFusion 9 Hosting Status Update

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

After many days of testing, installing the latest systems we can confirm the features and server software on our ColdFusion services:

  • CentOS 5 32Bit
  • LxAdmin/Kloxo Control Panel (Same as our Railo hosting)
  • ColdFusion 9 Enterprise
  • MySQL 5
  • PHP 5
  • PHP Ming Enabled
  • FFmpeg

Why 32Bit operating system, the main reason is due to the control panel we want to use. LxAdmin/Kloxo is supported mainly for 32bit and as we want to provide the most stable solutions possible.

Once we have tested each area is working fine and we are happy with these systems we will release the beta stage of our services to a select group of users to test and play. This will be done this week hopefully, if you would like to register your interest for the beta testing please contact us.

Please note some tags will be restricted such as “cfexecute”, “cfregister”, “cfobject” etc for security reasons.

UPDATE: 31/August/2010 : 13:58 UK TIME

We have had a few questions about ColdFusion datasource names (DSN) and how the process will be in creating them, as unlike Railo users will not able to have access to the Admin area of ColdFusion. Well the answer from our tech team is nice and simple, we will be creating an online form which all users that have ordered ColdFusion hosting will be able to access to create DSN’s within the client area of Host Media UK. We will later look into developing a Kloxo control panel addon to manage datasource names.

This will be released soon after the public release of the hosting and for the mean time anyone who requires a DSN created will be able to open a support ticket with the database details so our team can manually create one for you.

ColdFusion 9 Hosting is coming to Host Media UK

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Host Media UK is very excited to announce the soon to released ColdFusion 9 Enterprise web hosting for both shared and reseller hosting on Windows 2008 Servers.

Now, everyone likes free things so we are offering a free ColdFusion hosting plan just like our Railo free package which anyone can signup to for a tiny setup fee of £1 GBP. Not much to spend for reliable ColdFusion hosting.

With the priced hosting plans we begin with the “CF9 Base” package which starts at £3 per month and if you are looking to become a ColdFusion reseller then you can hosting an unlimited number of accounts for £20 per month.*

All plans also come with FFmpeg and PHP Ming for Windows to give you great media support with ColdFusion.

We wanted to give ColdFusion a new look for hosting, as you may or may not know ColdFusion hosting has always been more expensive than standard PHP hosting due to a few factors. 1) ColdFusion is not open source and it costs unlike PHP, Railo etc. 2) Most hosting companies should be offering ColdFusion Enterprise which costs £3,646.00 Ex VAT (£4,284.05 Inc VAT) 3) Finally most users like to use ColdFusion on Windows servers with ASP.NET, PHP and using IIS systems.
We have made sure all 3 factors we have done for a lower price. How? Cloud based servers that can increase on demand if we require and a great provider of servers and software for our systems.

* These plans may change resources and prices before full release.

What is ColdFusion?

ColdFusion 9 Hosting

Adobe® ColdFusion® application server and software enables developers to rapidly build, deploy, and maintain robust Internet applications for the enterprise. ColdFusion 9 allows developers to condense complex business logic into fewer lines of code. ColdFusion Builder is an Eclipse based IDE for efficiently managing ColdFusion application development from concept through deployment. Together, they offer a complete set of tools and services for creating rich, robust Internet applications.

We are not just ColdFusion administrators we are also ColdFusion developers, so we understand the real environment that ColdFusion comes with.

New Walla Walla, Washington State DC and Services

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

After long talks with the Vivio Data Centre in Walla Walla, Washington we have now agreed a contract to have new servers placed within the fantastic facility. With this new data centre comes new services which include Linux based Railo hosting which allows you to host .cfm files without the expense of ColdFusion.

Railo 3.1Railo comes with many great features that allow you to use the power of ColdFusion without spending out for the hosting. Railo is also more stable and faster than the ColdFusion engine.

Features

  • Use most of the ColdFusion tags and custom tags from the Railo team.
  • Your own cfadmin to add mappings / datasources / etc
  • Open source built so we can work on adding new connectors and system addons
  • Works with the following ColdFusion frameworks:
    1. Coldbox
    2. Transfer ORM
    3. CFWheels
    4. Fusebox
    5. Mach II
    6. Reactor – ORM
    7. Model Glue
  • Supports most database types including MySQL, MsSQL, PostgreSQL, Access, etc

Our view of Railo

As ColdFusion based developers finding a easy to use and powerful scripting language that can handle our clients requirements is a huge plus. This is why ColdFusion was picked as the main development language for us, when we heard about Railo we were very excited about the idea of a server side software that will use almost everything that ColdFusion does but open source and free. As you may know ColdFusion Standard has a price tag of over £800 (Ext VAT) for 1 server licence which for many is alot to invest in.

We are now moving our scripting plans to be able to handle both ColdFusion and Railo so if you use our scripting services you dont need to worry about expense of ColdFusion and use Railo.

Railo on ordering

As we will be offering railo services to all LxAdmin hosting package apart from the basic package you will have Railo Activiated on your account within 48 hours after ordering as our team does need to add your account to a XML file that handles the paths for your hosting. All other features of your hosting will be enabled straight away which will include PHP, MySQL etc.

LxAdminLxAdmin (Kloxo)

Kloxo (Previously Lxadmin) is trivially the most advanced and flexible hosting platform on this planet. From Kloxo HostinABox that can run a full featured hosting on 15MB RAM to Kloxo Enterprise, which is only truly distributed hosting platform in the industry, Kloxo is a single software that can power all areas of your hosting business, whether it is powering your entire shared hosting or simple control panel that you can sell with your VPS offering.

Why LxAdmin

We have picked LxAdmin for this new server and service due to its low preformance requirements and its easy to use interface. Similar to cPanel in many ways, this control panel allows you to manage every part of your website hosting.

Packages / Ordering / Pricing

At the current time we are working on the websites detail page for Railo / LxAdmin hosting and our team is deciding on the best pricing structure for this. We think basic LxAdmin hosting without Railo will start at £5 per year and will be listed with the hosting packages under ‘Shared Hosting’. Railo Hosting will be a dedicated section on our website with all information regarding its features and what you will be able to use on the hosting package.

We will post more information here on our blog in the next day or so.
