Even though we are a UK trading company, we have a large part of our company based in the US (servers & customers), and we will NOT be supporting the legislative measures recently introduced in the United States House of Representatives and Senate; HR 3261, the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), as well as S.968, the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA). This is something our customers have asked us about and we want to ensure we will do everything we can to keep the freedom of our customers content.

Windows Servers Coming Soon…

In the past we have worked with beta public Windows servers for our customers to use for their Windows needs but know after many months of server development, testing and final beta features we are almost ready to release our Windows web hosting services.

What features will be included:

  1. Windows 2008 Server
  2. Plesk 8.3 Stable
  3. ASP.NET 3.5
  4. MySQL
  5. MsSQL
  6. Ms Access

We will of course be looking to add new features in the future but wanted to release a server that would over powerful, fast and most importantly stable features. We are hoping to have these services released by the end of this year for the same pricing structure as our current shared hosting packages which start from only £5 GBP per year.

New servers coming soon…

Host Media UK and AeonCube Networks have been developing its relations with some of the larger data centres in the UK, US and Asia to help develop our network to an even larger group.

We originallyplanned to hold off this new venture but with the recent load on our current network we wanted to ensure that our systems will be very reliable where ever our customers websites are hosted.

One of the big names in the UK (located in Berkshire) Blue Square, which offers a huge facility (10,000 sq.ft) to run our high preformance servers. With powerful connections to the rest of the EU we will soon move most of our UK hosting needs to Blue Square.

Singapore data center offers an amazing uptime, superior network facilities, professional team and their private VLAN connecting Australia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, India and Philippines. We look forward to see what Pacnet can offer in the future plans for our Asia network.

cPanel Enkompass for Windows 2008 Servers

Over the past month we have had a growing interest in cPanels up coming control panel for Windows and many of our customers are interested in using it when it is released. We have had our eyes on this software since cPanel first released the news that they have started developing the software and we have agreed that we will be signing up to cPanels Enkompass for Windows 2008 Servers when a stable version has been released.

Currently we are unsure when a release will be released stable enough for companies to start using but we will keep all our customers informed.

Softaculous now on our Media and Reseller plans.

As of today (10/07/2009) we are now offering Softaculous auto installer for installing PHP scripts on your account. With more than 100 scripts to install from a click of a button this feature is a great for speed and usability. This does not mean we have got rid of Fantastico but now have Softaculous as well to use. So what ever you find easier and better you have the pick of either.

You will be able to install a range of scripts (Short list below with link to full list) such as forums, galleries, Games, CMS’s, and much more.

PHP_MING Hosting

Over the past week we have had php_ming on our Linux cPanel servers to work with and many of our customers have already found this feature as a great use.

What is PHP_MING (Taken from PHP.net)

First of all: Ming is not an acronym. Ming is an open-source (LGPL) library which allows you to create SWF (“Flash”) format movies. Ming supports almost all of Flash 4′s features, including: shapes, gradients, bitmaps (pngs and jpegs), morphs (“shape tweens”), text, buttons, actions, sprites (“movie clips”), streaming mp3, and color transforms –the only thing that’s missing is sound events.

Note that all values specifying length, distance, size, etc. are in “twips”, twenty units per pixel. That’s pretty much arbitrary, though, since the player scales the movie to whatever pixel size is specified in the embed/object tag, or the entire frame if not embedded.

Ming offers a number of advantages over the existing PHP/libswf module. You can use Ming anywhere you can compile the code, whereas libswf is closed-source and only available for a few platforms, Windows not one of them. Ming provides some insulation from the mundane details of the SWF file format, wrapping the movie elements in PHP objects.

Ming was added in PHP 4.0.5.

Out with the old in with the new…

We have been working for sometime to build a server up to run ColdFusion and ASP (ASP.NET), currently using Helm and ColdFusion 7 on a Windows server we have manage to host many sites but now as we are looking to host hundreds of websites with ease it was time for us to build our new server.

Using Windows 2003 Enterprise on a brand new server with the latest Plesk, we have also planned to have the database management separate from the web server for MySQL 5.

The final stage is currently underway and we are looking to transfer all current shared windows users to this new server within the next 48 hours.
